Career/areas of interest

Dr. Huang graduated from National Taiwan University School of Medicine. After fulfilling residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he completed post-graduate training in Reproductive Endocrinology at Chiba University in Japan and at the University of Rochester in the USA. He then joined the faculty at the National Taiwan University School of Medicine until 1977, at which point he became a Faculty Member at the Division of Reproductive Medicine and Infertility, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Rochester up to 1992. He then returned to Taiwan as the President of Cheng Kung University Hospital. He was the Founding President of the Taiwanese Menopause Society and one of the founding council members of the Asia Pacific Menopause Federation. He was the President of the 3rd Scientific Meeting of the Asia Pacific Menopause Federation, which took place in Taipei, Taiwan on March 1–4, 2007. Along with other editorial positions, Dr. Huang has served as a member of the Editorial Board of Climacteric, the Journal of the International Menopause Society (IMS), since its establishment in 1997 till 2007 and Menopause, the Journal of North American Menopause Society, since 2010. He has published many scientific papers on menopause and has participated in, as well as chaired, numerous national and international menopause meetings during the past 15 years. Some topics of specific focus have included the perspectives of Asian women on Menopause, genetic factors of osteoporosis among Taiwanese women, and the effects of androgens on bone development and mineralization using ARKO mice, which are available in our laboratory at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. He has served as a member of Executive Board of IMS since 2008. He always contributes to the Board the specific perspectives and needs of Asian menopause women. He will continue doing it for assisting global consideration of IMS decision-making.
