The congress was well attended with approximately 400 delegates attending the conference sessions. The meeting was opened by Dr Ma Corazon Zaida N Gamilla, President of APMF and Dr Jericho T.P. Luna, President of the Philippine Society for Climacteric medicine.
IMS was well represented at the meeting with many members attending and a number delivering invited lectures.
The Keynote Address, on the topic of Management of the Menopause in 2019: State of the Art, was delivered by IMS President, Professor Susan Davis.
Immediate Past President, Professor Mary Ann Lumsden delivered lectures on the place of the hot flush as a marker of disease, the diagnosis and treatment of post-menopausal bleeding and the choice of local or systemic hormone therapy for VVA.
IMS Board member Ang Sen Bin discussed breast cancer risk among Asian women and convened a workshop on sexual health.
An IMS Plenary Symposium was held on Day 3 of the Meeting. Dr Delfin Tan spoke on ‘The WHI after 17 years, has it done more harm than good’, Prof Rod Baber spoke on the topic of ‘The right MHT for the right woman’ and Prof Susan Davis discussed the need for the undergraduate medical curriculum to include a course on menopausal medicine.
IMS would like to thank the many IMS members who contributed to this excellent meeting and to thank both APMF and PCSM for their kind invitations and their generous hospitality.
We hope to see many APMF delegates in Melbourne for the 2020 IMS World Congress and we look forward to the next APMF Scientific Meeting to be held in Hangzhou, China in 2021.
