The Officers and Board are very pleased to announce that this prestigious bursary was awarded to Dr Berihun Zeleke from Ethiopia at the 14th World Congress on Menopause, Cancun in May 2014 following open competition from ten medically qualified applicants aged under 40 years, who submitted a detailed plan of their research projects. Dr Zeleke is currently studying at Monash University in Victoria, Australia but intends to return to Ethiopia when he has finished his research entitled “Menopausal symptoms; prevalence and impact on the health and wellbeing of older women“.
Preference was given to applicants from countries where opportunities for research and funding are limited. A subcommittee of the IMS Board considered the applications which were all at a very high standard and made proposals of awards and the amount for the Board to approve. All final research findings will be presented at the 15th IMS World Congress in Prague, Czech Republic in September 2016 and any findings submitted to Climacteric for publication, if appropriate.
