Dr Nicole Jaff, received her PhD in 2015. Her research thesis examined the reproductive health of 702 mid-life black urban South African women, and was titled: The study of women entering in and in endocrine transition (SWEET). The study examined similarities and differences between black postmenopausal South African women and women worldwide. It is generalizable to other communities of women in sub-Saharan Africa, and potentially in other low-income countries. This research is ongoing, and has has been presented at international conferences, and published in international medical journals.

She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Menopause Society (IMS), and a council member of the South African Menopause Society. She is a North American Menopause Society (NAMS) Certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP). She is an honorary lecturer in the Department of Chemical Pathology, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, a research fellow at The Arum Institute, and a member of the International Menopause Society (IMS) Global Initiative for Women committee. She co-authored an IMS white paper “Brain fog in menopause: a health-care professional’s guide for decision-making and counselling” with Professor Pauline Maki published in Climacteric in October 2022 for World Menopause day.

Her research has been presented at international conferences, and published in international medical journals. She has published four books on menopause to help empower lay women to understand the menopause transition and their midlife health. These books have been well reviewed, both locally and internationally.

She has been awarded two awards by NAMS – a New Investigator award (September, 2019) and the NAMS/Ann Voda Community Service Award (2018). She is a member of the Staging Reproductive Aging collaborative group (STRAW+10), and a member of the NAMS MenoNotes team. Recently, she was invited to join the Editorial Board of Climacteric, and also serves on the Editorial Board of the medical journal, Women’s Midlife Health, (BioMed Central). She served as Chair of the Consumer Education Committee of NAMS (2016-2017) and was Editor of Menopause e-Consult, clinical newsletter, NAMS (2017-2018). She is presently a member of the NAMS Education Committee.

She has given numerous webinars, talks and workshops on midlife health and menopause throughout South Africa and internationally.
